SAFESAFE is the second largest animal advocacy organisation in New Zealand and has for over 78 years been one of the strongest voices in New Zealand defending animals against cruelty and abuse. SAFE is dedicated to changing attitudes and nurturing compassionate values by educating the public about the inherent value of animals.

 

Open Rescue

Open Rescue works to advocate on behalf of factory-farmed animals through rescues and investigations, in addition to documentary making, organising film screenings, media commentary, publishing articles, public speaking, school talks and education stalls.

 
vegan SocThe Vegan Society aims to mainstream the animal-free lifestyle by promoting veganism as an environmentally friendly, healthy and compassionate way of life and providing support and resources to new and existing vegans across New Zealand.

 

AFA

Animal Freedom Aotearoa started up in 2010 as a national grassroots group committed to achieving animal liberation. They are dedicated to raising awareness about the plight of animals in all animal abuse industries and promoting an ethical vegan lifestyle.

 

Veg Soc

The Vegetarian Society is a non-profit organisation, formed in 1943, aiming to spread the principles of vegetarianism and its advantages. The group brings attention to the cruelty to animals and destruction of the environment caused by a non-vegetarian way of life and assists new and current vegetarians.

 

Chch Veg Soc

Until the devastating earthquakes, the Christchurch Vegetarian Centre was run by the Vegetarian Society to provide information, activities and community for vegetarians and vegans living in or visiting Christchurch. The centre has since closed until further notice but continues to support the city's vegetarians and vegans. The groups offer events such as the Vegetarian Expo, Triathlon and regular potlucks, talks, film nights and information stalls. 

 

SeaShepherd

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organisation. They deploy innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas.

 

Angel  Food

Founded in 2004 by Alice Leonard, Angel Food is a successful and vibrant business dedicated to delivering vegan goodness to New Zealand and beyond! Angel Food imports and exports a range of speciality animal-free products which they either sell on their online store or supply to speciality stores all over the country. They are infamous for their delicious homemade vegan marshmallow and meringue kit set mixes so pick one up at the conference!

The Green Party is the only party in Parliament to take animal welfare issues seriously and remains a strong voice for the animals. Green Party animal welfare spokesperson Sue Kedgley, is one of the few MPs who has fiercely defended animals in the House. Ms Kedgley maintains a strong relationship with animal advocates and has played a crucial role in tabling animal welfare issues at Parliament. 

INTERNATIONAL ORGANISATIONS

Animals Australia

Animals Australia is Australia's second largest and the most dynamic national animal protection organisation. Animals Australia has an unprecedented track record in investigating and exposing animal cruelty. In recent years the organisation's work has resulted in five 60 Minutes segments exposing factory farming and the live export trade and further segments highlighting animal cruelty on the nations leading current affairs programmes. 

 

FEP

The Food Empowerment Project was founded in 2006 by Lauren Ornelas. The group seeks to create a more just and sustainable world by recognizing the power of one's food choices. The FEP encourages healthy food choices that reflect a more compassionate society by spotlighting the abuse of animals on farms, the depletion of natural resources, unfair working conditions for produce workers, and the unavailability of healthy foods in low-income areas.

 

ANIMAL RESCUE AND ANIMALS SANCTUARIES

Black Sheep

The Black Sheep Sanctuary is owned by the Animal Protection Society, situated on 26 acres of land providing a sanctuary for abused, injured, and neglected animals founded on animal rights principles.

The Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is an animal refuge in Matakana that provides a safe haven for abused and neglected animals, and care for injured or orphaned native birds. The sanctuary also offers a unique bed and breakfast which is ideal for animal and nature lovers and helps to raise funds for the animals.

Huha

HUHA (Helping you Help Animals) animal sanctuary provides an online education resource and a 13 acre safe haven for injured, neglected and abused animals and wildlife, providing a new life free of small cages, chains, boredom, ignorance and other forms of abuse.

Animal rehoming

Animal Rehoming is run tirelessly by Linda Nunn who has helped save thousands of animals over the years, rescuing, rehoming and fostering stray dogs, chickens, kittens and cats along with other animals, until they are relocated to a new home.
